Hana Brighton learns to wander the web

We just talked about Kiryuyrik’s AW11 collection last week, but they’re not letting up; the lookbook for SS12 has appeared on their Facebook page and is a continued refinement of the streetwear-cum-formal aesthetic. Compared to AW11 the collection is surprisingly somber, consisting mostly of black, grey, and beige with flashes of pink and red.

For me, the standout pieces are the fantastic jackets. The wrinkled polyester twill, long jersey and this season’s edition of the infamous Napoleon jacket are all looking really good. There’s also the elongated button-front shirts create some really cool silhouettes.

One of the things I find very fascinating about Kiryuyrik is that their collections tend to be very similar to each other, focusing on evolving and refining a core look rather than creating a revolutionary new style each season. While some might criticize this as lazy design, this is not an uncommon thing in Japanese fashion and I find it refreshing when compared to a lot of American and European designers. The focus is less on “what’s hot this season” and more on catering to a clientele with whom the aesthetic resonates. If you liked Kiryuyrik last season, you will likely find more to love this season. To me, that’s a good thing.

Thanks to Yasuhiro Kaji, sales manager at Kiryuyrik, for uploading these photos early for us! You can see the full collection here.
